Message boards can and should be used the same way you would use a newspaper. If you were to pick up a newspaper and look for a job. Your first step would be to look for a job that you are qualified for. You probably wouldn't apply for a job as a construction worker if you don't know anything about construction work. Treat message boards the same way. Don't apply for a job as a website designer if you don't have experience designing websites.

There is one big difference between using a message board and a newspaper. Jobs posted on message boards are typically referred to as "job leads". These leads are usually found by other members of the board who are trying to be helpful. In other words the job leads you see are probably not being posted by the potential employer. These leads are usually not researched. Most members do their best to post only legitimate work at home leads but they don't usually have the time to thoroughly research the job.

Now on to the tips:

1. Read the post completely and follow the directions given.

2. Don't ask for more information such as wages, hours etc. You wouldn't call a company from a newspaper ad and ask these questions. You would apply for the job and save those questions for your interview.

3. Check the date the lead was posted. Chances are that a job posted 6 months earlier has been filled.

4. If the post has a link included. Use it. This will give you more information on the job and allow you to apply for the job.

5. Make sure you qualify for the job being advertised.

6. Recognize that the poster probably has nothing to do with the job and can't tell you anything more than what is in the post.

7. Don't post your email address to request more information. This will open you up to spam and will probably never be seen by the employer anyway.

8. When you email the employer or apply for the job. Check your spelling and grammar before submitting.

9. Include your resume and and a relevant cover letter when you apply for the job.

10. Be as professional online as you would be if you were sitting in front of the employer asking to be hired.

Please be aware that an employers time is valuable. Just because they don't respond back within a few hours or even a day or two, doesn't mean much. Treat employers who hire for work at home jobs with respect and kindness. When you apply for an offline job, the typical protocol is to wait a week before checking back. The same applies online. Understand that they have probably received hundreds of applications and will be sorting through them to find the best qualified applicant.

Finding a job that can be done from home can be a frustrating and time consuming endeavor. Getting that work at home dream job is also very rewarding. Keep looking and applying and eventually you will make your dream come true!

Mystery Shopping Scam

I found the following advertisement on Craigslist. The first red flag was the grammar. The second was the email address. So I went to the actual SRC website and sure enough. Right on the first page they tell you to beware, they do NOT recruit through websites. So if you see this ad, don't respond!

Internet Marketing

What is it?  How do I get started?   What do I need to do?   How does it work?

I've heard most of these questions over the past few weeks and then some.  So I figured this was a good time to blog about it again.   The answers aren't easy though so bear with me.

What is it:  Basically, it's any type of marketing online.  This can range from creating a product you want to sell, to selling products and services for others.  This is also what you the marketer will have to decide on.   Do you want to create your own product or service or sell for someone else?

What do I need to do:  This is where it can get tricky.   If you decide you want to sell your own product or service, first you will need to "package" it.   This means creating a website, setting up a shopping cart and then you can get out there and promote your website.   You can also use paydotcom.com and clickbank to find affiliates to help you sell your product or service.

Chances are good though that what you really want to know is how to sell products and services for other people.   This is the tricky part.   There are two different types of "affiliate marketing" which will officially be what you are doing.

The first kind is what I do.   You create a website first and foremost.   You will want your website to be loaded with "content".   This means you need to pick a niche.   So for instance, you want to sell golf products.  So you design a site about golfing.  You could share tips on chipping and pitching and driving and then add in advertisements for various golf products.

The second is a little more complicated and can get really tricky.   This is also the type that all those rich guys and jerks are trying to get you to buy their information on.   It consists of choosing a product or a service at places like clickbank or any affiliate program.   A lot of these programs will have pages you can direct the reader to and you can promote that page.   What you are supposed to do is create a squeeze page though.   A page that will make the reader want to click through your link and purchase the product.    Once you have created your squeeze page, you are ready to promote.   This brings you back to signature lines in forums or paying for advertising through google or yahoo.

This is all a pretty basic description of the types of affiliate marketing out there and gives you an idea of what you are getting into but it's by far not the most informative article ever written.   If you want to keep pursuing affiliate marketing there are some great sites for learning, one of my favorites is uberaffiliate.com and you can get direct help and products through The Second Tier, they even have free online training every week!  You can also check out the banners below for products and programs that help in learning affiliate marketing.

Another great source of learning about affiliate marketing and doing it effectively is to join an online community.  One of my favorites is abestweb.com and there is a ton of information to get through.  Another is Conquer Your Niche.

If you've read this far, thank you and I want to personally appologize to the reader who has been waiting a week for this posting!

Check out the new lists!

It's been a long time coming but the new survey lists are finally up at It's Free!

You can now sign up with the Top 40 Survey sites (the ones that send the most surveys) or you can search through the Verified survey lists and ALL lists are now alphabetical and listed with the incentive they provide most often and which countries they accept!

We've also added a pics-n-pans section where we have listed every survey site we could find, the good the bad and the awful.  Here you can share your thoughts on the companies and see how other members feel about a particular site BEFORE you sign up.

Take some time and check them out.  A lot of new survey sites were added in the re-vamp.  http://www.itsfree.proboards43.com

Why do we fall for the scams

Reprinted from www.wahmscam1.blogspot.com

This is easy to answer and hard to answer all at the same time.   It seems like when people in general get on the internet they tend to believe whatever they see.   Kind of like believing whatever you read in a newspaper or watch on television.

For instance why do you think those websites promising hundreds of dollars a day while you sleep are still up and running?    Ever see the websites promising data entry jobs and they have thousands of companies in their database you can work for?  All you have to do is pay a one time fee of $39.95 and of course this is the discounted price for one week only.   Bet if you go back a month from now they are still offering the discounted price.  I would also bet that once you pay for access to their wonderful data base you will find out there is no job at all.   Just a way to run a pay per click business and that business will cost you a lot of money if you don't understand what you are doing.

These places are still in business because we make it profitable for them to be in business.   With the mindset of it it is written it must be true we fall prey to their promises and send in our hard earned money.

The internet is really not any different than the outside world.   The internet does offer us a information and a lot of it on any subject we wish to explore but it cannot make jobs magically appear with just your credit card number.   It cannot promise you work instantly.  Just because it is written doesn't make it so.

Before you hand over that credit card number do some research and make sure you know exactly what you are signing up for.   Stop and think about what it is you might really be purchasing and make sure you will be able to live with your decision.
